LEICESTER – Selectmen approved the existing and soon-to-be leaving town administrator to negotiate a deal with a former local town administrator to become his interim replacement. In a 4-0-1 vote, selectmen Monday night instructed Town Administrator Kevin J. Mizikar to work out a "tentative agreement" with James P. Purcell to serve as the interim town administrator as they search for Mr. Mizikar's replacement.

The Wellesley Police reported on their Twitter feed at 2:20pm about a robbery investigation at the Bank of America located at 35 Washington St. They say that at this time a search of the area has been completed, and the investigation is ongoing.

The Hardy Elementary School PTO has come under fire lately for publishing a "Donor Honor Roll" on the independent 501 group's website. The page lists the family names of those who have contributed to the Annual Appeal, along with a Classroom Scorecard listing the percentage of family participation in each of the 15 classrooms at the school.

Applicants may seek funding for community-oriented programs to be presented in 2018, including but not limited to lectures, performances, exhibits, workshops, and/or festivals. Completed applications are due by October 16, 2017.

NEW BEDFORD – Twenty-nine local men and women will represent the United States of America in competitive rowing and sailing races against teams from the Azorean islands of Faial and Pico during the ninth International Azorean Whaleboat Regatta hosted by the Azorean Maritime Heritage Society. The men's rowing team is composed of Larry Almeida of New Bedford, Paul Arias of Warwick, Rhode Island, Ryan Dwelly of New Bedford, James Hayes-Bohanan of Bridgewater, Nelson Medeiros of New Bedford, Jim Mello of Natick and Israel Monteiro of Rochester.

Ephraim Gitelman, 88, of Needham, an electrical engineer who worked on the training module for the first Apollo mission and a management leader in the computer industry, died Saturday at the Stanley R. Tippett House in Needham. Mr. Gitelman was a graduate of Bronx High School of Science and the City College of New York, where he was a member of Tau Beta Pi, the engineering equivalent of Phi Beta Kappa.

Just a day before the UConn Huskies kick off their season, they picked up a victory on the recruiting trail as defensive lineman Jonathan Pace gave his verbal commitment. A native of Needham, MA, Pace plays all over the line for St. Sebastian Country Day.
